CITY ADMINISTRATOR METRICS
Enhancing the City Administrator Role: The most important position in our city is the City Administrator. I am suggesting that there be a change to the way this position is reviewed annually. This position should be reviewed by the entire city council, not just the mayor and one council member, allow for anonymous staff and public comments, and provide a set of metrics to evaluate performance that is fair to the city administrator.
Set Clear Goals: Establish specific measurable goals for the City Administrator, focusing on key areas like budgeting and community engagement.
Transparent Reviews: Implement a clear process for performance reviews, including how often they occur, who is involved, and how feedback is used. Use standardized evaluation forms for fairness.
Training and Development: Offer professional development opportunities based on performance reviews to address weaknesses and foster improvement.
Open Communication: Regularly meet with the City Administrator to discuss performance and challenges. Provide channels for anonymous feedback from city employees and residents.
Handle Complaints Fairly: Develop a clear process for addressing complaints and performance issues, ensuring fairness and impartiality.
Best Practices: Compare our policies with those from other cities to ensure they are effective and comprehensive.
Legal Compliance: Review all policies with legal experts to ensure they comply with regulations and avoid potential legal issues.
